BuzzBallz Hits a Home Run with Shrink Sleeve Packaging

The Challenge

When Alex Kick, president of Southern Champion/BuzzBallz LLC, decided to change his product packaging from direct print to a shrink sleeve, the decision also brought a host of uncertainty. “This was our first attempt at sleeving the BuzzBallz container and we weren’t sure what to expect,” recalls Alex.

The unique shape of the container – short and round – was a challenging canvas. The artwork needed precise graphic distortion to ensure the image rendered correctly on the packaging after the shrink process. The sleeve needed to shrink below the lip of the can to avoid any discomfort for the consumer. Lastly, their Texas Rangers Opening Day deadline was a tight turnaround and they needed the sleeves tested, artwork processed, and printed quickly.

The Solution

Moving from a directly printed can to a shrink sleeve opens a number of opportunities for BuzzBallz. With their multiple SKU's, the sleeve allows the company to use one common container for all of their products, reducing unused inventory and waste. The sleeve also allows for a greater print area on the container versus direct printing on the circular shape.

The Hammer Packaging team worked closely with the BuzzBallz team through the technical shrink sleeve development process. The shape of the bottle utilized a specific shrink material to ensure a seamless finished product, which was thoroughly tested before the production run. The graphics were precisely distorted by the prepress team to appear straight and consistent on the bottle. "It took some testing, but the Hammer team helped us get the size just right," says Alex. "Hammer understood what we were shooting for and worked through our concerns."

The partnership created a product package that fans enjoyed throughout the Texas Rangers season. We're excited to work with BuzzBallz on future products!
