Achievements in Sustainability

In 2008, Hammer created a cross-functional team to set strategy and oversee performance in the area of Sustainability.  Currently, we are proud to claim the following: 

RECYCLE

  • 85% of all waste from the operations of our business. 
  • Home and office computer equipment through a company-sponsored recycling program.

REUSE

  • 100% of our shop towels used for cleaning the presses.
  • 99% of our residual coatings.
  • Residual inks generated from the printing process by reprocessing them for future print jobs.
  • Coating totes, skids, end boards, core plugs and H-channels.

REDUCE

  • 100% of volatile organic compounds by using ultra-violet (UV) and electron beam (EB) curable inks and coatings.
  • 100% of solvent-based inks by using UV and EB inks.
  • 100% of laminates and adhesives by using a mono-web printing process.
  • 100% of film (pre-press) by using a digital process and going direct to plate.
  • 84% of landfill waste by recycling materials, supplies and waste.
  • 80% of volatile organic compounds with our coatings.
  • 69% of waste sent to burn facilities.
  • 50% of energy in the curing process by using UV and EB curable inks and coatings.
  • 15% of paper weight with several key customers.
  • Amount of substrate by using PETg-LV and white roll-fed film
  • Amount of virgin paper by using up to 30% post-consumer waste on certain grades, and up to 10% post-consumer waste for wet strength paper.
  • Production time, set-up and clean-up by providing Extended Gamut color option (Hexachrome®)
  • Transportation costs by consolidating 3 locations into 1 (2008).
  • Energy from moving to in-line sheeting.

RENEWABLE

  • 45% of our sheetfed ink content come from naturally renewable raw materials.
  • We use renewable-certified paper whenever possible, based on our customer's requirement.
